Acne & Acne Scarring: How to Treat One of the Most Stubborn Conditions Using the Best Acne Treatment Products

Dealing with acne may be one of the most frustrating and problematic skin conditions to deal with. Point, blank, period! Who knew that something so disliked and dreaded with disdain in our teen years, would also be a recurring problem in adulthood? Usually thought of as a teen problem, acne can appear at any age, from birth all the way through adulthood.

Yes, to all you young readers, this might just be the beginning. To my mature readers, you’ve been through this and might still be going through it, so you know how this story goes! Nevertheless, acne is not a thing we have to live with or be stuck with. Regardless of age, many of us are looking to cure our acne without potential scarring. But, of course, some friendly reminders!

Acne scarring

Friendly Reminder #1: Acne scarring is usually inevitable if you don’t remedy the condition with quality, medical-grade skin care products and treatments administered by a board-certified dermatologist.

Friendly Reminder #2: Not all acne scars are the same, so treatment methods will also vary. There are many different types of acne scarring. Acne blemishes, atrophic acne scars, and hypertrophic acne scars are some acne scarring categories.

Acne blemishes are nodules, cysts, blackheads, and whiteheads. Blemishes can be identified by a change in skin colour, which can either be red marks or dark spots. These dark spots, or secondary lesions, are a result of uncontrolled or untreated acne which include rolling scars, pitted scars, box scars, atrophic scars as well as post-inflammatory or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. These scars form due to a loss of collagen, which also ends up changing the skin’s texture.

Most people will have multiple types of scarring, which makes sense considering we have been collecting them for a lifetime. Oh, the joys! The best treatment for atrophic and hypertrophic scars, are going to be in-clinic lasers. We are fortunate to have multiple modalities for scar remediation with today’s technology. Feel free to schedule an appointment with your local dermatologist to find out more about these services.

Acne in 4 Age Groups: Acne in Babies, Children, Teens and Adults

The best thing to do alongside in-clinic treatments would be to invest in the best acne treatment products. After all, there are so many products to choose from. MySkinShop has compiled a variety of some of the best acne treatment skincare products on the market! Now let’s dig into the four different age groups that acne breakouts may appear.

  1. Acne in Babies

Who knew you would be dealing with breakouts this early, right? Seriously though, it is profound how skincare becomes a part of our lives almost instantly. Acne in newborn babies (infant acne) is common, even though it seems to catch mothers and fathers by surprise. Newborn acne causes red bumps and pimples and can be found on the nose, cheeks and chin and usually clears up on its own.

If it doesn’t clear up on its own, bring the matter up with your pediatrician. Although most cases of newborn acne are not a big deal, it could be an indicator of something else, like the endocrine system needing to be checked. Infants who develop more severe acne may require treatment medication.

  1. Acne in Children (Ages 1-7)

This age range may have the least amount of acne breakouts. An important fact to remember; there are other skin conditions that cause ‘acne-like’ breakouts. Folliculitis and heat rash are a couple of examples of this, as they both cause red bumps and can be mistaken for pimples. Please contact your local pediatrician or dermatologist anytime your child has a rash and you’re not sure about it.

  1. Acne in Preteens (Ages 8-12) and Teens (Ages 13-18)

It’s perfectly normal to have acne in this age group, even as young as seven or eight years old. Some of you may be thinking eight years of age is just too young, when in fact, acne starts when puberty starts. Something to keep in mind, the amount of acne you experience as a preteen, will be a strong indicator of the severity of your acne as a teenager.

So, it’s actually a good time to start an effective skincare routine at this age. You may notice that after using some products, your preteen can still be experiencing some blackheads and occasional pimples. It’s more important than ever to switch to a medical-grade skincare routine. You will ensure that your loved one can have the best acne products to directly treat and repair their skin.

Parents, we all know as our teen’s hormones rage, acne tends to rage as well. This is completely normal. However, this doesn’t mean our teens have to live with it. With so many acne products out there, how do we know what will work best for our teenager? We strongly advise making an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist, as this is the most beneficial way of determining the appropriate remedy for your teenager’s acne condition.

  1. Acne in Adults

Just like teenage acne, adult acne is primarily affected by hormones. This also explains why women break out more often than men. Thanks again, hormones. According to board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Zaki Taher, who is the founder of Lucere Dermatology & Laser Clinic, about 30% of women will have acne, which is cyclic, deeper, and usually appears on the lower cheeks and jawlines. Carrying this acne well into adulthood is not unheard of. Most often, prescription medication is required.

Acne

As our hormones change throughout the years, so will our adult acne. Regardless of age, acne is NOT something you have to live with! To clarify, not all adult acne is due to hormones. Genetics, environmental and lifestyle factors can also play a part in adult acne. We have all heard of a little something called STRESS. Yes, stress can show up on our skin. Another reason, yet again, of why it’s super important to monitor work habits, effects of our personal lives, our diets and daily water consumption, just to name a few!

Or, if you’re like most of us and hoping for a more practical way to manage your acne.  A proper skincare routine with the best skincare products is a non-negotiable. That means you must be performing your skincare regimen daily to help treat, control, and prevent acne.
